Pets are Part of the Family

The majority of us have probably had some form of animal in our house at one time as a pet.  I know some people that have cats and dogs roaming outside and some that have them inside.  The majority of the people I talk to consider them to be family.  I have one friend that considers his dogs a part of his work force on the farm, whether it be to alert him that someone is there or help him round up stray cattle.  We have had our dog for the past 11 years.  He is a 90 pound lab that lives inside.  He is completely spoiled rotten.  Some could make the argument over table food or straight dog food.  Right or wrong, I won't get into that today.  We literally treat them like family because we are concerned with them and making them happy.  I would caution those who are considering pets that it is not just a piece of furniture in your life, but something that will alter your day to day schedules and especially your vacations.  With large dogs, it is hard to pack them around or take them on a long trip.   But for all the trouble and responsibility that comes with having a dog, they are still man's best friend.   Be good to your pets, and they'll be good to you.
