To Learn a Second Language or Not
I think that learning a second language should be a choice. Many high school and colleges require students to learn a second language. However, if you live in a place where there is no need for it, is it something that will actually benefit you? I don't think it is. I realize colleges are trying to make you a more culturally diverse, educated individual, but I don't think everyone has the need for it. If you decide on a career pathway that you will need a second language for, you would definitely want the opportunity to learn one. However, if you choose a career where there is no need for one, you have wasted a lot of time and money on something you will never learn. When you decide that learning a second language is something you want or need to do, you will be more likely to retain the knowledge you gain from these classes. If it is just something you are required to do with no intended purpose, you are less likely to retain the knowledge. I believe it should be a choice.
