Is Social Media Making You Lonely?

We read several articles in class today and the question was posed, "Is social media making people more lonely?"  I've put a lot of thought into this over the years and I've always said it definitely affects our communication skills.  It is easy to get so wrapped up in what's happening on social media that we ignore the people who are actually most important to us, that being our actual family and the people who live in our own households.  Whenever you see a lot of people hanging out with other people, it makes you feel like your life isn't as good as theirs.  They always post them going places and exciting events, but they never post the bad stuff.  You only see the good stuff.  It gives the false impression that your life is more boring than someone else's.  This can lead you to feel lonely and unimportant, but you must realize they aren't posting about anything that would lead you to think bad of them or see that they, too, deal with real life struggles.  Social media is a great way to stay connected to friends and family who live far away and help you stay in touch with people you love, but may not be able to see on a regular basis.  Technology is like anything else, you must find a balance between social media and your day to day relationships.  Don't get so wrapped up in what you see on social media that you ignore what is most important.
