Genetic Modification

Genetic Modification is something that can get into a heated debate.  Personally, I think God gets to be the one who decides how we turn out.  He is the one who created us and the one who can heal us.  People used to say that is the hand you are dealt, if you had a child that has some sort of disability.  However, it is hard for any parent to watch their child suffer through something that you wish you could take away.  In the article "Building Baby from the Genes Up," Ronald Green talks about how this is technology that probably isn't too far away from becoming a reality.  When you think you could take away a disease or genetic mutation, it is tempting to want to try to achieve this for your child.  However, as Richard Hayes says in his article, "Genetically Modified Humans? No Thanks," "Once we begin genetically modifying our children, where do we stop?"  This is a very valid point because while some may attempt this for the sole purpose of curing diseases, there will be someone who takes it too far, trying to create the most athletic or most beautiful children.  Why do we think we know better than God what a child should be?  After all, He says he has a purpose and a plan for each one of us.
