You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

You're never too old to learn something new.  Through life's journey I've come to realize in one statement that if you're not learning you're dead.  I remember the first time when I started playing the drums, I was trying to get as much knowledge drum related as I could.  I would see which drummer played on what album.  I would see if he had any instructional videos on VHS tape.  Ha Ha.  I would try to cram in as much of their album as I possibly could, driving my neighbors crazy with all of the banging going on at all hours of the day and night.  Then as I grew older, I had started developing my technique and sound and concentrated more on the performance than in the learning.  I had a person tell me one time that if you weren't constantly learning and evolving that you were becoming the norm or the status quo.  I recently developed a friendship with a drummer who is currently on tour with multiple country artists.  He told me that he needed a tune up every once in a while.  Then in turn, I asked him to help me do the same.  I realized after the session that he reminded me of where it all began.  So my thought for today and this year is, if you're not learning you're dead.  Always have a thirst for knowledge.
